CITIZENSHIP-WASHINGTON FOCUS

 

The 2008 Citizenship-Washington Focus (CWF) program will help youth understand how their individual actions can make a difference in our world. Conducted in Washington, DC, CWF uses our nation's capital as a classroom to foster youth appreciation, understanding and involvement in civic responsibility, government operations and current issues.

Citizenship-Washington Focus helps youth identify and understand their active role in society. This unique 4-H youth program combines educational workshops and operational simulations with educational field trips and professional consultations. Topic highlights include youth issues, the U. S. Constitution and the federal government.

 

PARTICIPANTS: A county or state delegation of youth leaders aged 15-19 years old and adult coordinators and advisors participate in CWF. Adults accompanying CWF delegates may not bring their own children, unless they are 15 years of age or older and are CWF delegates.

DATES: CWF is a six-day program offered weekly as follows:

June 2-6

June 22-28

June 8-14

June 29-July 5*

June 15-21

July 6-12*

 

July 13-19

*Tentative dates for the Idaho State delegation for 2008.

LOCATION: The National 4-H Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland, with program highlights taking place in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

COST: The package price includes lodging Sunday through Friday nights, most meals beginning with Sunday dinner and ending with Saturday breakfast, and all program activity costs, including admission fees for sight visits, logistical support, materials and other expenses incurred in the official program outline. Approximate package price is as follows:

Kellogg, McCormick, Firestone Halls           $682
(Youth: 3 or 4 per room with private bath)
(Adults: 2 per room with private bath)

TRANSPORTATION: Airfare from Idaho to Washington, DC may be as high as $700, but we usually can buy tickets on special for around $300-400. Washington, DC local transportation costs will be about $132.

THEATER TICKETS: Theater tickets usually cost $30-$40.

ADDITIONAL COSTS FOR IDAHO DELEGATES:

$25 nametag, insurance, etc.

$25 to help pay the expenses of the chaperone

1-3 extra nights lodging at about $37/night
