National 4-H Dairy Conference Applications due May 1, 2007 ATTENTION DAIRY AND DAIRY FOODS 4-H MEMBERS Are you a person who loves dairying and is willing to go the extra mile to work for a possible trip to the National 4-H Dairy Conference? The Conference is held in Madison, Wisconsin the last week in September/first week in October and is an excellent opportunity to share your enthusiasm for the dairy industry with similar youth from all over the United States and Canada. The United Dairymen of Idaho think enough of this program to sponsor scholarships to the week-long event. In order to help you plan your 4-H goals to be eligible for this award, we are enclosing a summary of the eligibility requirements and the questions asked on the application. You can obtain an application form from your County Extension Office. Applications are due in the State 4-H Office May 1. Check with your County Office for the due date in your county. Plan now to involved yourself in dairy and community activities if you are an enthusiastic dairy 4-H'er! ELIGIBILITY 1. A 4-H member must be currently enrolled in at least the third year of the 4-H Dairy or Dairy Foods Project. 2. Applicants must be 15 and not over 19 years of age on January 1 of the year they will attend the conference. 3. An applicant may not have previously attended the National 4-H Dairy Conference. 4. Those attending the conference must be capable and willing to share information learned upon return home. 5. Should have an interest in the production, marketing, processing and use of dairy products. 6. Should have an outstanding record of 4-H Dairy/Dairy Foods accomplishments. AWARD Travel awards for 4-H delegates to attend the National 4-H Dairy Conference in Madison, Wisconsin, in September/October. Amount and number of trips awarded will be determined in May. Delegates may have to supplement their scholarships to cover travel/conference expenses. QUESTIONS 1. What major skills and knowledge have you learned in the Dairy/Dairy Foods project? 2. What types of 4-H Dairy/Dairy Foods activities have you been involved in? Example: Meetings, tours, judging events, demonstrations, exhibits, etc. 3. Tell about participation and accomplishments in fair events. Example: Trained a heifer for fitting and showing and received purple ribbon. 4. What Dairy/Dairy Foods honors and recognition have you received? 5. List all the projects you have taken other than 4-H Dairy/Dairy Foods. Also indicate major recognition received such as county medal, champion, scholarship, etc. 6. What did you gain from taking other 4-H projects? 7. What major 4-H and community activities have you participated in, such as Idaho Pride, Community Business Survey, etc.? 8. What are the major "out-of-4-H" activities you have participated in, such as church, school and community? 9. Have you taken the 4-H Teen Leadership Project? How many years? List your teen leadership experiences and activities with the Dairy/Dairy Foods project. 10. List your other leadership activities and experiences. (i.e. help younger members with projects, assist at camp, 4-H exhibits, achievement shows, demonstrations, etc.) 11. What do you feel has been your greatest accomplishment in 4-H leadership? 12. STORY - Tell about your experience in the 4-H Dairy/Dairy Foods project and related activities important to you. What have you done? Was it successful? What financial arrangement did you have? Did the experience help you become a better citizen, and develop your leadership abilities? Express in your own words why you would like to attend the National 4-H Dairy Conference.
