4-H Public Speaking Contest

 

State 4-H Leaders Forum November 10-12, 2006

Red Lion Inn Downtowner

Boise, Idaho

 

Eligibility

Any youth 13-19 (as of January 1, 2006), who has participated in their county 4-H public speaking contest and received a blue ribbon is invited to enter the 4-H Public Speaking Contest to be held on November 11th in Boise in conjunction with the State 4-H Leaders Forum .

     Participants must have been enrolled in 4-H during 2006, be of the appropriate age, and received a blue ribbon award at their county public speaking contest.  Qualification or participation at a district event is not required. 

     There will be two categories of speeches: the Dramatic Presentation and the Original Speech.

     Recommended time allowances for both categories is 5 to 7 minutes with a slight point deduction if the speech is less than 5 or more than 7 minutes long.

     Cash scholarships are planned for first place winners in each category. Complete information, brochures, and judging sheets have been sent to all County Extension Offices.

Original Speech

     An original speech is a presentation on a topic of concern or interest.  Short quotes may be used as a minimal part of this speech.  Recommended time is 5 to 7 minutes.  Participants should start with a short introduction including their name, county, and the title of their speech.  Judging criteria include introduction, organization, content and accuracy, stage presence, delivery, effect on audience, summary, purpose, and time.

 

Dramatic Presentation
    
The Dramatic Presentation is a reading or memorized passage from existing literature.  Recommended time is 5 to 7 minutes.  Participants must bring three copies of the presentation material for the judges and should start with a short introduction including their name, county, the source of their presentation and why they chose it .  Judging criteria include introduction, selection, content and accuracy, stage presence, delivery, effect on audience, purpose and time.

Please complete the registration form and return it to the Minidoka County Extension Office before October 20, 2006.  Include $10.00 for fees if you have not registered for the 2006 State 4-H Leaders Forum.
