Recruiting Suggestions for the Idaho 4-H International Program

·        Designate a County Coordinator to be a point of contact for the International Program. The County Coordinator would be responsible for finding host families, arranging activities for the students and their host families, and coordinating arrival and departure in your county.

·        Identify a list of 4-H families that would make excellent host families. A good list size is between five and ten families.  Give them a call and personally invite them to host.

·        Call families in your county who have hosted before and ask them to help recruit other families.

·        Arrange for the Japanese students to give presentations at your county fair, or to make posters for the fair advertising their program. Organize a picnic for the Japanese students and their host families, plus anyone else who may be interested in hosting in the future.

·        Arrange for one of the State Coordinators to give a presentation in your county or district. It could be at Leaders’ Forum, a Leaders’ Council meeting, or for a meeting organized to promote special programs in your county.

·        Form an International Club in your county. It could be formed of 4-Hers who are interested in participating in the International Program, and of those who have participated in the past. The club could help with fund raising for future outbound students, develop presentations and displays for use at county 4-H events or in the community, host get-togethers for exchange students in your county (LABO, IFYE, and high school), and conduct or participate in global education workshops.

·        Post information on your county web page or in your county newsletter.
